MEAN WELL introduced the first 185W AC/DC multiple channel constant current output LED power supply~ LDV-185 series. Built-in active PFC function, these units can offer 6 CH/ 700mA or 12 CH/ 350mA constant current outputs. Different from MEAN WELL’s other LED power supplies, LDV-185 series are built-in DC/DC constant current LED driver ICs, so that they can ensure the balance of output current from each channels that ensure the long lifetime of LEDs and reduce the EMI interference of the lighting system. LDV-185 has two kinds of models (Blank type/ D-type) for your selection. Blank type has basic features without “timer dimming” function and D-type (optional) equips with “timer dimming” function. After power on the system, D type model will start up the internal timer controlled by the MCU with pre-set counting program that up to three different time period (four different brightness levels) can be set to adjust the output current in each period. In addition, in order to fit in with the outdoor harsh environment, these series are potted by glue to reach the high dustproof/ waterproof level (IP67) and are designed by aluminum case as well as stainless screws.

Featuring with 180~295VAC AC input, LDV-185 series not only fit for general 230VAC main input, but also can be operated under 277VAC input in North America. Built-in active PFC function, these new series comply with harmonic current limitation per EN61000-3-2 Class C (>75% load). They also fulfill PF>0.9 if loading over 75% and possess 4KV surge immunity (EN61000-4-5) ability. With up-to date LLC topology, LDV-185 possesses up to 88% of high efficiency (based on the same LED quantity for each channel/ total wattage >120W), so it can be cooled by free air convection from -30℃ to +70℃ambient temperature that meets the requirements of outdoor installation. Standard functions include protections for short circuit, overload, over voltage, and over temperature.

Customized FR-4 connectors from Advanced Interconnect make affordable prototypes without sacrificing reliabilty.

	The Problem:

This military application called for a method to interconnect 3 PC boards in a defined space with a total applied cost under the existing stamped-and formed alternative. Their current connector system was costly and not robust enough to withstand the required 15,000 Gs.

	The Solution:

Advanced Interconnections application engineers reviewed the complete product design, and drawing from the Advanced Tool Box, created a custom FR-4 insulator with application-specific length pins in prototype volume to allow for testing. Our unique design actually reduced the overall connector count from 6 to 3, while providing a robust, screw-machined solution at a lower overall cost.

	The Result:

The Advanced solution was approved and the initial volume of 1,000 sets will ramp up to 10,000/per year. To further reduce costs as the volume increases, the design can be easily transitioned to a molded insulator.

In the telecommunications and electronics markets sectors, existing components are being replaced with new, more powerful compact TCA standard devices (Telecom Computing Architecture) at an alarming rate. The low construction volume of these components allows the flexible, modular upgrade or conversion of base stations such as mobile networks to fulfil market requirements. However, the flexibility of dividing components comes at a price: the heat generated by the modules must be dissipated reliably and consistently in the long term. The new S-Force air concept for compact, flexible modular systems was specially developed to reliably fulfil these requirements.

ebm-papst engineering teams are working with telecoms and electronics companies in both Australia and New Zealand to improve their engineered systems. In developing S-Force fans they have enabled these companies to build more complex and space efficient and cost efficient units allowing them to compete aggressively on global markets.

Tonar Industries, a Mean Well franchised distributor, announces news from Mean Well!

MEAN WELL launched new generation of 40W and 60W LED power supplies ~HLN-40H/60H and HLP-40H/60H series. Features with insulated plastic enclosure, HLN-40H/60H series can reach IP64 waterproof / dustproof level by its mechanical design and has cost-saving on glue. With casing removed and miniature PCB design, HLP-40H/60H series also has significant cost-saving on the mechanical parts. Therefore, these four series can be good solutions for LED lighting fixtures with economical concerns. Compared with the existing PLN-45/60 and PLP-45/60 series, these four new models not only increase 0.5~4% of efficiency and extend its warranty from 2 years to 3 years, their -40℃ power-on ability (at 230VAC) is also superior to the -30℃ of PLN/PLP-45/60. Besides, HLN-40H/60H-xxB and HLP-40H/60H models equipped with three-in-one dimming function (1~10VDC, PWM, resistance) to fulfill the growing demands of energy-saving dimming applications.

Built-in two stage active PFC function, these two series comply with harmonic current limitation per EN61000-3-2 Class C (>60% load). They also fulfill PF>0.9 if loading over 60% and possess 4KV surge immunity (EN61000-4-5) ability which comply with the requirements of general lighting. With up to date high efficiency topology, these new models possess up to 91% of high efficiency, so HLN-40H/60H can be cooled by free air convection from -40℃ to +50℃ ambient temperature, and HLP-40H/60H can be operated from -40℃ to +70℃ that meet the high ambient temperature requirements for closed systems. Besides built-in standard functions of protections for short circuit, over voltage, over current, and over temperature, these power units apply for global certificates per UL / CUL / TUV / CB / CE including UL8750 and EN61347-2-13 of lighting regulations, which can greatly guarantee your safety. Suitable applications include indoor LED lighting, LED electric display, LED decorative lighting, and LED stage lighting…etc.

MEAN WELL introduces 40W and 60W lower wattage models~HLG-40H (40W)series and HLG-60H (60W), to fulfill the middle to low wattage LED lighting applications. These two series have four options (A/B/blank/D type) in different mechanisms and input/output design for your selection. A type have two holes on the cover which allows users adjust DC output voltage range from 60% to 100% without opening the case; B type equips with three in one dimming function (1~10VDC, PWM, resistance). Through additional signal output cable, it offers system designers great flexibility for dimming operation and energy saving design; D-type (optional) equips with timer dimming function. After power on the system, D type model will start up the internal timer controlled by the MCU with pre-set counting program that up to three different time period (four different brightness levels) can be set to adjust the output current in each period. According to customer’s request, Mean Well can define auto brightness adjustment and the brightness level in each period by customizing the program. In the last, Blank type has basic features without voltage and current adjustment function.

Featuring with 90~305VAC wide range AC input, HLG-40H/60H series not only fit for general 115VAC or 230VAC main input, but also can be operated under 277VAC input in North America.
